Shekar has 31 years experience in the education and training of nurses and other health care professionals.
He joined the University of the West of England in 1995 and held several posts in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, including those of Head of School and Director of Students’ Experience.
He has a keen interest in issues concerning diversity, equality and human rights and has worked on a number of related projects funded by the Department of Health (DH) and Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). He retired from the University in July 2011. He has an interest in world literature and sees himself as an amateur astronomer.
