"This is such a big help to me, and I am so grateful to you"

Aims

The Gane Trust was created in 1954 in Bristol.  Its principal aim is the grant application scheme to support people engaged in the crafts, design, the arts or social care and welfare. We have a particular remit for the South West of England, but we do accept applications from all over the United Kingdom.

Travel Scholarships and Awards

The Trust has also established annual £1000 Travel Scholarships with:

  • The Bath Spa University (Bath School of Art and Design).
  • The University of the West of England ( School of Creative Arts).
  • The University of the West of England ( Faculty of Health and Life Sciences) - the June Lancaster Award.

We make an annual award to the City of Bath College in collaboration with the Design and Industries Association: a £500 Prize for the best collection goes to a student on the National Diploma Fashion Clothing Course.

The Future

Over the next few years we will be developing the Trust's activities by:

  • strengthening our links with recognised Craft Guilds in the South West.
  • consulting with representative regional bodies to explore the creation of a Gane Award of Excellence for registered Craft
  • Apprentices building upon the experience of commissioning a table from the firm of Barnsley in 2005.
